Mayor Jim Gray thanked Governor Steve Beshear for an additional $556,000 to pave the Tates Creek sidewalk.
The sidewalks will cost a total of $1.7 million and will be funded through a combination of federal, state and local funds, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Communications Office.
The sidewalk connects areas off Tates Creek Road to Commonwealth Stadium and the University of Kentucky Arboretum.
The sidewalks are 5 feet wide and will stretch 1.6 miles along each side of Tates Creek, from near McMeekin Place to the Lansdowne Shops, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Communications Office.
Traffic signals will be improved and concrete pads for benches and shelters are also being paved.
Construction on the sidewalks began in mid-August and will conclude next spring, after breaking for winter weather, according to a press release from the Mayor’s Communications Office.
