The University of Kentucky Volleyball team swept Morehead State to close out their non-conference schedule on Monday evening. The No. 18 Wildcats earned their fifth sweep of the season on an offensive night ignited by junior, Jackie Napper, 16 digs. Senior, Whitney billings, tallied 14 digs and sophomore, Morgan Bergren, added 8 digs. Bergren also contributed 36 assists, a match high, to help the Wildcats take the win over the Beakers.
The Wildcats struggled to take the lead in the opening set, but went on a 10-2 run to claim the the set. The Wildcats claimed the second set behind sophomore, Lauren O’Connor’s five kills and Bergren’s 13 assists.
Morehead State got off to a 5-1 lead early in the third set but UK rallied back to tie the score at 18. At match points for the Wildcats, the Beakers tallied two pints to take the lead but two consecutive attack errors put UK on top, 26-25. Shelby Workman, with an assist from Bergren, helped to claim the match.
That feels good,” Skinner said. “I’m happy with the way we competed at the end of that last set and pulled out a close game. Morehead is a great serving team and a pretty balanced team and they made us work.”
