An Asteroid Zipped past Us?!

Apparently an asteroid the size of four, yes FOUR football fields came into close proximity with Earth last month NASA reports.  NASA learned about the asteroid on October 8th while the U.S. government was shutdown.

Scientist scientist suggest that we have nothing to worry about as the current odds of Earth being hit when the Asteroid comes near us again in about 20 years or so stand as 1: 63,000. In fact,  Don Yeomans, manager of NASA’s NEO Program, said “With more observations, I fully expect we will be able to significantly reduce, or rule out entirely, any impact probability for the foreseeable future.”

This is a huge relief as NASA scientist say that if the asteroid did strike Earth… it would have the affect of a few THOUSAND atom bombs being deployed.
