The University of Kentucky’s eighth annual First Amendment Celebration event is tonight , Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the W.T. Young Library Auditorium.
Frank LoMonte, executive director of the Student Press Law Center, will give the annual State of the First Amendment address. He will speak on the state of the First Amendment rights for high school and college students, according to a press release from UKnow.
The James Madison Award for Service to the First Amendment will also be presented at this event.
The event is free and open to the public.
This event is sponsored by the Scripps Howard First Amendment Center, housed in the university’s School of Journalism and Telecommunications . The mission of the center is to promote understanding of the First Amendment among citizens of Kentucky, to advocate for First Amendment rights in the Commonwealth and nationally, and to produce internationally recognized scholarship concerning the First Amendment and its related freedoms.
