Monday afternoon, a press conference was held to unveil the blueprints for a new Commonwealth Stadium. The $110 million renovation will begin construction in December 2014, after the completion of the 2014 football season.
The new stadium will employ local materials including Kentucky limestone and reclaimed barn wood. The stadium will now seat approximately 61,000, down from the current estimate of 67,600 seats. The new stadium will have premium seating options including loge boxes and luxury suites.
The fans aren’t the only ones who are benefiting from the remodel. Athletes will now have access to a new locker room, training room and multipurpose room.
Funding for this project comes fully from UK Athletics.
