Josh Nadzam, a former University of Kentucky athlete, will run from Lexington to Frankfort on Thursday to raise awareness of dating violence and launch support for proposed legislation to protect Kentucky victims.
Kentucky is the only state that doesn’t offer civil protection for victims of dating violence who haven’t lived with or had a child with the abuser. Nadzam hopes to build support for House Bill 8, which will amend Kentucky’s current law to include protection for such victims.
He asks Kentuckians to show support for dating violence protections by making a donation for every mile he runs. The contributions will help abuse survivors and benefit GreenHouse17, an advocacy agency committed to ending intimate partner abuse.
Nadzam says the challenge of the one-man run is nothing compared to difficulties experienced by victims.
Donations are accepted by his online campaign: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/josh-s-run-from-lexington-to-frankfort.
