The University of Kentucky Chemistry/Physics building was evacuated around 10 pm last night.
UKPD and Lexington Fire Department responded to the building after students reported getting headaches from a “strong odor.” Around 50 to 60 people were in the building at the time of the evacuation. The Lexington Fire Department initiated a full hazmat response and re-directed all foot traffic around the building and the surrounding area of campus. While students complained of headaches, UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said nobody was treated on the scene or transported to the hospital.
The situation was active for around two hours. The building was re-opened shortly before midnight and the scene completely clear shortly thereafter. Authorities did not release details on what the potential odor was.
