Late Night Film Series Closing Out the Semester

285f7659340b58489817c5ce76f77442The Late Night Film Series is coming to an end for the semester with a lineup of several movies, including a sneak preview and a student produced film.

LNFS will be showing “Juno” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” tonight in Worsham Theater of the University of Kentucky Student Center. All LNFS events are free and open to the public.

“Juno”, the 2007 movie movie about a high school girl who becomes pregnant after a first-time with her best friend, shows at 7 PM. The 2014 Oscar nominated movie “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” shows at 10 PM.

Zach Lamb, leader of LNFS, says “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” was chosen because it was one of the biggest films of the holiday season.

“We thought it would be the biggest draw for our season finale,” Lamb said.

Tonight’s showings will not be the season finale for LNFS, however.

Two showings are scheduled for tomorrow according to LNFS’s website. “Pariah” shows at 7 PM and the “Brave Little Toaster” shows at 10 PM.

Lamb says next week will feature two additional showings, including a sneak preview of “Neighbors”, a comedy featuring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron that isn’t scheduled to release in theaters until May.

LNFS was contacted by Universal Studios to show the movie, something Lamb says happens once or twice a semester.

“Neighbors” will show in Worsham Theater on Wednesday, April 30. It is free.

Thursday night will feature a feature length film, “LOOFO”, directed and written by two UK students and fraternal twin brothers, Zak and Ben Norton. The film premiered earlier this week at the Kentucky Theater. The campus premiere will be on Thursday, May 1 at 8 PM. It is free.

Each LNFS event offers free popcorn.  With a punch card, a free drink can be earned on the 2nd and 4th movie and a free t-shirt on the 6th movie.

Lamb says LNFS is super happy to close out this year, but they’re “twice as excited” about next year.

“We’re really going to hit it out of the park next year.”
