Already looking ahead to the summer, the city has raised prices of annual city pool passes for larger families. While individual passes for unlimited access to Lexington’s seven pools will cost $10 less this summer, families of six and more will have to pay more. Now, for a family of six, annual pool passes will cost $200. Before, it was $160. Up to two more family members can be added to the six-member pass at $20 each. Meanwhile, individuals will pay $40 instead of $50.
The city’s action is in response to difficulty policing the family pass program; while the U.S. Census says the average family size in Lexington is less than three people, most of the family passes were for more than six members. The parks department hopes to decrease fraud and encourage more individuals to use the pools.
