On Saturday, over 200 high school juniors and seniors got a little taste of the college football atmosphere playing under the lights at Common Wealth. Campers learned the same concepts that Kentucky football players perform during their practices at the annual Saturday Night Prime Time Camp.

Kentucky coaches showed high school players just what to expect during college practices while teaching them the finer skills of each position. The coaches teach in the same fashion, use the same intensity and give the players the same college level advice that they do on a daily basis. “The most invaluable aspect of the camp is that we got to experience identical drills that Kentucky football players run during practice,” said Brentton Ervin a senior at Trinity high school in Louisville Ky.

The Kentucky coaches expect the high school athletes to run a similar pace to their practice at UK. The coaches administrated a high intense practice in order to see the full potential of the high school athletes. “We have to run a college pace practice in order to discover the top athletes,” said graduate assistant Myles Poole. “We bring the same intensity during our practices to these camps, hoping to bring out the full potential of each camper.”

A tour of the locker room, players lounge and team meeting room allowed campers to take a sneak preview into a player’s everyday life. “I had a great experience; I loved being able to take part in the college facilities, where the players hangout and gear up for practice everyday,” said Ervin.
