Poetry Has Allowed Me to Live

South African writer and poet Diana Ferrus will be speaking at the Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library on September 22.

Ferrus will be discussing the cultural resistance that is happening in South Africa.

The poet is best known for her poem about a South African woman that was displayed as part of a freakshow during the 1800s. Ferrus is also a founding member of the Afrikaanse Skrywersvereniging, Bush Poets and Women in Xchains.

Her work has been influenced by the inequality among race, gender and class in her home country of South Africa. She is an advocate of belief in the future and is actively trying emancipate the exploitation of all people.
