Avery Williamson earns midseason defensive rookie of the year award

Avery Williamson, the staple to the University of Kentucky defense during the 2013 season, is making a name for himself at the next level.

Williamson earned the defensive rookie of the year award for the Tennessee Titans after a stellar first half of the season, during which he has recorded 36 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a sack.

He led the Tennessee Titans with a career-high 10 tackles (eight solo) in their Week 8 loss against Houston.

Williamson also recorded two tackles for loss, one sack and one quarterback hit, all of which were tied for the team lead during the game.

At UK, Williamson captained the defense in 2013 and led the team in 2012-13 in tackles. He earned second team All-SEC honors in his senior season.
