The University of Kentucky announced on Friday that head coach Mark Stoops would be awarded a contract extension through the 2019 season.
Stoops, in his second year at the helm of the football program, owns a 7-14 record heading into the Nov. 8 game against Georgia. The Cats finished 2-10 last season, his first year as coach.
“I greatly appreciate the support shown for our program by President Capilouto, the University administration and Mitch Barnhart,” Stoops told UK Athletics. “I am more excited than ever about the future of Kentucky football and the challenge and opportunity of building this program for our players and the Big Blue Nation.”
UK, 5-4, has won more games this season than the previous two years combined. The Cats are one win away from their first bowl game since the 2010 season.
