William Well Brown has spent some time as one of the lowest performing elementary schools in Kentucky.
Not only has the school had enough but community leaders have jumped in to assist in what many call Academic Mentoring. The men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. graduate chapter Alpha Beta Lambda has worked to change the outlook on academics for all of the children at this school.
“Reading, Writing, Rewards” is a program sponsored by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. that assist children in areas that they feel students needed assistance most. As students read and earn good grades on writing assignments they will be able to earn points for rewards and qualify for a educational trip at the end of the semester.
The men spend scheduled days the school working with students on reading and writing assignments. While much of the work is volunteer, members tof Alpha Phi Alpha say it is important because of the foundation that their fraternity was started that they assist in educational uplift for all ages.
