UK head coach John Calipari announced on Monday that junior guard Dominique Hawkins suffered a broken hand in practice over the weekend and is expected to miss four weeks.
Hawkins will have surgery on Tuesday to repair the broken bone.
“I really feel bad to have to report this because Dom was playing so well,” Calipari said. “He was so much more confident, so much more skilled. There was no doubt he was in the rotation, and now he’s just got to get back and stay in shape. We’re looking forward to getting him back in November.”
The junior guard has played in 56 games during his UK career and was a part of the two-platoon system during the middle of last season. Hawkins figures to play a more prominent role for the Cats this year.
UK’s first game of the season is against Albany on Nov. 13.
